Martin Luther King has said, “Today our very survival depends on our ability to stay awake, to adjust to new ideas, to remain vigilant and to face the challenge of change”.
In fact, to face the challenge of change, it needs collective approach, organized frame-work, intellectual capital and above all an energetic youth. The most crucial stage of one’s life is the period of youth. It is a time when a person goes through many changes and experiences. It is the age of discovery and dreams. Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the most outstanding poet-philosopher of Pakistan, was deeply concerned with the youth of his time.
He puts it nicely
“Mohabbat mujhe un nojawanon se hai sitaron pe dalte hain Jo kamand”
(I have love for those youngsters who pull the stars down)
“Wohi jahan hai tera jisko tu kare paida, Yeh sang-o-khisht nahin Jo Teri nigah mai hai”
(Your world is one which you create yourself, not these stones and bricks, which are in sight)
In Jammu and Kashmir, fortunately, we have an energetic group of youth in the pink of health. They pine for Islamic vision and are pitching for Islamic jurisdiction. They are known by the name “Islami Jamiat-e-Talba.
IJT is the largest student-centric organization in the valley inspired with the ideology of Maulana Maududi. It has a well-defined goal to inculcate the Islamic ethos among the students with a modern outlook. In Kashmir, IJT is going great guns and has so far cracked out good results.
Whether, it is Education sector, Environmental Awareness Campaign, Understanding Quran Campaign, Disaster Management Workshops, Blood Donation Camps etc. it is making great headway. As far as its development in Education field is concerned, it conducts Talent Search Test (TST) to expose young to the competitive environment. TST has left a great mark on the minds and hearts of students. Every year a good number of students take part in this competitive exam. It shows the eye-popping achievement of IJT.
It is important to note that, the members of IJT also visits different coaching centers, interacts with the students and addresses their grievances. It distributes the books and uniform among the needy ones. Above all, it holds the Career Counseling Program every year for the students of 10th and 12th classes.
Likewise, Understanding Quran Campaign is the part and parcel and gist of the activities of IJT. Especially, during the month of Ramadan in different colleges and universities it goes remarkably. In the month of March IJT starts Environmental Awareness Campaign, in which students participate and mobilize rank and file about the importance of healthy environment and save its sanctity and purity. In 2017, the theme of the campaign was “GO GREEN”. As per the sources of IJT, this year thousands of trees were planted in educational institutions in every District. Sanitation drives were also conducted, further, Debates, Seminars, and symposiums were also organized in a different institution in order to understand the common masses about the importance of the healthy environment.
IJT also organizes Disaster Management Workshops at District level. During these Workshops, focus is being given on how to tackle in times of Disaster. Participants are being trained with the latest techniques in order to Cope Disaster. During the 2014 floods, IJT volunteers did a commendable job in their respective areas in Kashmir. It kicked off rescue operation and evacuated many people and saved many public properties. It distributed relief among the needy ones; also, cleaning drives were on the mark. In hospitals, schools, colleges and in mosques phenyl was sprayed to curb the inflectional diseases from spreading. Daryn Kagan has said awesome lines, ‘Bad things do happen in the world, like war, natural disasters. But out of those situations always arise stories of ordinary people doing some extraordinary things’.
There is no iota of doubt about the excellence of IJT. It has won the raves from the people during the floods; the way it did a job was very remarkable and telling and has racked up success in the field of social work.
IJT has also its own Blood Bank; most of the members donate their blood. During the emergency, IJT donates the blood to poor and needy patients and has helped so far in saving the precious lives of many people. Further, IJT conducts many startling quality and an erudite program, caters the change among the youth and provides them space for healthy discussion. These programs leg them up in grooming their personality. Like, Young Leaders workshop, Writers Guild, Leadership Development Camp, Social Media Workshop etc. are some aggrandizing programs.
To sum up, we can say that one should acknowledge the talent and embrace the reality.
We should have a pragmatic approach to see at the grass root level. IJT need to cater different things to move with different opportunities. Apart, from different philanthropic projects, we need to bring vibrancy, and penetrate in different institutions.
I am reminded of Tennyson; ‘it is not too late to seek a newer world…some work of noble note may yet be done”. Keeping into consideration the achievements of IJT, vague criticism remains hollow and only beats the air. We have a high hopes from IJT and has great expectations with this Student Organization. We know it is better to light the candle; then to curse the darkness. Allama Iqbal sees the youth as the builder of the nation. He (Youth) is the future of Muslim Ummah and tomorrow he might have to lead the whole Ummah. Iqbal rings the bell,
“Sabaq phir parh Sadaqat ka, Adalat ka, Shujaat ka
Liya jaye Ga Tujh SE Kaam Dunya ki Immamat ka ”
(Read again the lesson of truth, of justice and velour! You will be asked to do the work of taking on responsibility for the world)
